Retina Global is an international nonprofit focused on providing sustainable outcomes to retinal disease management around the world. The nonprofit, with a 501c3 designation from the IRS, is currently active in many countries in Central and South America and in Africa, with plans to expand to South-East Asia. We initiated the Orange County Eye project to provide specialized eye care to the underserved population in Orange County. Volunteer ophthalmologists and optometrists, as well as those working in the eye care field, along with many other volunteers from around Southern California, provide for patients from underserved communities.
We also encourage education as an objective of the project, and hence we have ophthalmology and optometry trainees from schools in Southern California, as well as medical and premed students from the region attend the clinic, provide care as well as shadow the specialists. We also focus on research as part of the clinic, with multiple research projects that are currently ongoing as part of the project, with the likelihood of clinical trials to begin soon.
