A Safe Place For Kids Since 1948
Carl and Edith Rehnborg started the Kids Club in 1948 as a safe place for boys to grow and play. They brought together a group of community leaders to create an after-school clubhouse environment for children and adolescents, ages 6 to 18. Over the years, it has evolved into what is now known as the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park.
While the Club is an affiliate of the National Boys & Girls Club of America Movement, each Club remains autonomous in governance, finances and implementation in order to best meet the direct needs of the community it serves. As such, the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park is responsible for creating its own budget and raising the necessary financial resources to sustain and expand its programs.
Our Programs
Serving over 1,000 youth and teens annually, the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park is an after-school recreational program for youth and teens, ages 6 to 18, offering programs in three key priority areas: Good Character & Citizenship, Academic Success, and Healthy Lifestyles. The Club strives to develop programs and community partnerships that will help the youth of Buena Park achieve the confidence, skills, and healthy habits necessary to become positive contributors to their community. The facility offers programs and services to every child, regardless of race, gender, religion, economic statues, or any other factor.
An estimated 80% of our members are from low- to moderate-income (LMI) families based on the number of students reported as socioeconomically disadvantaged from the 19 local schools our members attend as well as the 100 members that attend the Club through the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, all of whom are considered low- to moderate-income.
