GUARDIAN SCHOLARS TESTIMONIALS
Destiny Somerville
I was in the foster care system. My experience in foster care taught me to be grateful and considerate. It taught me patience, and allowed me to have a greater sense of awareness. I am currently in the Guardian Scholars Program here at Santiago Canyon College. Just to name a few benefits of being in a program: the personal relationships I have formed with the other students who were in foster care, the access I have to food to eat on campus or take home, and the access I have to much-needed school supplies.
Amber Rubalcaba
I am a former foster youth, having been in foster care for three years, including shelters and foster homes. The Santiago Canyon College Guardian Scholars Program helped me figure out where I wanted to go and how to get there. Being in the program gives me someone to talk to if I need it, a place to get food when I’m hungry, and help with my school books and supplies. Without this program I might not have had the interest to pursue my education or see what I could be capable of achieving.
